Accounting and tax for business owners · Gold Coast, with Altiora Advisory
Your accountant and your adviser, finally on the same page.
Tax, structure and compliance decisions shape your wealth as much as any investment does. We work hand in hand with Altiora Advisory, a partner-led accounting firm on the Gold Coast, so the tax work and the financial plan are built from the same file.
Our view
How you pay yourself, when you contribute to super, how the trust distributes. Every tax decision is also a wealth decision, and it should be made with both sides of the picture in the room.
Sound familiar?
Running a business is rewarding. The paperwork is not.
Behind on lodgements
A BAS slipped, then a tax return, and now the ATO letters are arriving. The longer it sits, the harder it is to open the envelope.
Sales, but no cash
The business looks busy and profitable, yet the bank account never seems to reflect it.
Tax as a surprise every year
You find out what you owe after 30 June, when it is too late to do anything about it.
Hours lost to bookwork
Receipts in the glovebox, a spreadsheet nobody trusts, and a bookkeeper or accountant billing hours to produce basic reports.
Why it matters
Most families have an accountant who looks backwards and an adviser who looks forwards.
The accountant lodges last year. The adviser plans the next twenty. When they never talk, opportunities fall through the gap: the trust distribution nobody modelled, the contribution that should have been made before 30 June, the business structure that suited you ten years ago and doesn’t now.
You talk to us
Tell us what you need, whether it’s a tax return, a restructure or an ATO letter. We look at it alongside your wider financial position.
We brief Altiora
With your permission, we introduce you to Byron Raal and his team with a clear brief, so you don’t start from scratch explaining your situation.
One coordinated plan
Altiora handles the accounting and tax. We handle the advice. Both sides work from the same picture, so the decisions line up.
Services provided by Altiora Advisory
Four ways Altiora can help, coordinated with your plan.
Each of these services is delivered by Altiora Advisory. Our role is to understand the problem first, introduce you with a clear brief, and make sure the result fits your super, investment and retirement strategy.
Tax rescue
Overdue returns and ATO debt
Fell behind on BAS, tax returns or ATO obligations? It happens more than people admit, often after the wrong accountant or a stretch of trying to do it yourself.
Put your hand up. An obligation-free conversation to understand the problem, the options and the likely fees.
Get up to date. Overdue returns are prepared from whatever records exist, from a shoebox of receipts to a full accounting system.
Manage the ATO. As your registered tax agent, Altiora deals with the ATO, sets realistic deadlines and can request remission of penalties and interest where appropriate.
Stay current. Once it is solved, an up-to-date accounting routine helps make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Tax planning and strategy
Plan before 30 June, not after
Tax is often the most overlooked business expense. Planning works best when it starts early, with current numbers.
Start early. Profit and tax are forecast to year end, allowing for depreciation, interest and accrual adjustments.
Investigate options. The small business concessions and timing options that may apply to you are worked through and monitored during the year.
Advice report. You receive the year-end estimates and recommendations in writing, explained in a meeting so you can decide with confidence.
Coordinate. We line the tax plan up with your super contributions, trust distributions and investment decisions.
Virtual CFO
Senior financial insight, without a full-time CFO
High-level financial analysis and advice on a regular basis, for business owners who want to make decisions on numbers rather than gut feel.
Benchmarking. Your results are compared with industry benchmark data to find opportunities, then KPIs and a budget are set as the yardstick.
Business analytics. Shortly after each month end, results are reviewed against those KPIs in a clear management report.
Monthly meetings. A board-style meeting each month: review results, decide the next actions, then measure them the following month.
Bookkeeping automation
Cloud accounting that runs itself
Moving to cloud accounting should not be scary. Done well, it cuts weekly admin to minutes and gives you real-time profit and loss at the click of a button.
Assessment. Your business is assessed to choose the right accounting and receipt-capture technology.
Implementation. Data is migrated into the chosen platform, with support so the switch is painless.
Training. Simple, practical training so you and your team know exactly what to do each week.
Reporting. A concise monthly snapshot of how the business is performing, as close to real time as possible.

Where the two worlds meet
The tax decision and the wealth decision are usually the same decision.
How much to pay yourself, whether to distribute from the family trust, when to make a super contribution, whether the business is structured to sell one day. Each is a tax question and a wealth question at once.
When Altiora and Wealth Effect Group work from the same file, those decisions are made once, properly, with both sides of the picture in view. You stop being the messenger between two professionals who have never met.
